XXI edition Certamen Latinum Giuseppe Carboni
The Municipality of Ortezzano, under the patronage of the Legislative Assembly of the Marche Region, the Cassa di Risparmio di Fermo Foundation, the Province of Fermo, the University of Macerata, the Italian Association of Classical Culture, Marca Fermana, the Ecomuseum of the Aso Valley, Pro Loco of Ortezzano, and Casa Editrice Sanoma, announces the 21st edition of the CERTAMEN LATINUM on 17 and 18 April 2026. The competition is open to students of secondary schools in Italy and other European Union countries who wish to study Latin.
The Certamen is held in honor of the Latin scholar originally from Ortezzano, Prof. Giuseppe Carboni (1856-1929), author, together with Prof. G. Campanini, of the famous Latin dictionary “Campanini-Carboni”, which entire generations of high school students have studied and still study.
The aim of the Certamen is to celebrate the importance of the Latin language and culture by promoting the study of Latin as a shared cultural heritage of Italy and Europe and as a tool for aggregation, contact, and national and international collaboration between students and teachers of Italian and European secondary schools where Latin is studied.
