Ortezzano is home to an important symbol of remembrance: the Monument to the Fallen of All Wars. This monument is enriched by the artwork “Il Fiore” (the Flower) created by local artist Marcello Savini.

Marcello Savini (born 1928), a native of Ortezzano, was a versatile artist – painter, sculptor, graphic designer – who skillfully expressed remembrance and tribute to the fallen through his art.

“Il Fiore,” created in 1972 from copper by the renowned Copper School of Force, is a a 5.50-meter-high sculpture rich in symbolic meaning. It depicts two petals opening, symbolizing peace and justice. These petals ideally envelop the world, conveying a message of protection against the horrors of war. Its soaring form also evokes a gesture of prayer in remembrance of those who have lost their lives in conflicts.

Although slightly different from the artist’s first sketch, the artwork “Il Fiore” in Ortezzano preserves its expressive power and universal message intact. The War Memorial with “Il Fiore” is a place that invites reflection on history, art and the values of peace and justice.
