The Auditorium Sant’Antonio, a treasure trove of centuries-old history, is an important venue for cultural activities in Ortezzano.
Originally, the building was consecrated for worship as the Church of St. Anthony of Padua. It was situated in a suburban area, outside the castle walls, and was associated with a local confraternity, namely that of the Confraternity of Suffrage.
The building has undergone several historical phases. Following state concession in the early 19th century, it was entrusted in 1831 to priests Benedetto and Raffaele Carboni, who took on the task of restoring it and reopening it for religious services. Later, from 1863 onward, it assumed the specific function of a cemetery church- a role documented by the presence, inside, of the tomb of the Latinist Giuseppe Carboni.
The former religious building has been converted into a modern and functional Auditorium. Today, the restored space is used by the Municipality of Ortezzano to host conferences, concerts, cultural events and ceremonies. For example, the award ceremony of the Certamen Latinum “Giuseppe Carboni” is held in the auditorium, maintaining a connection with the historical figure buried there.
