Among the
blooms, hills and landscapes of Valdaso

In Ortezzano, nature is intertwined with village life and its agricultural traditions. In spring, the Aso Valley is dressed in white and pink with blossoming of orchards, while in summer the green of vineyards and olive groves takes over the landscape. Paths and country roads—ideal for exploring on foot or by e-bike—lead you through panoramic views, the scents of wild herbs, offering vistas ranging from the Sibillini Mountains to the Adriatic Sea.

Nature and Outdoors

Nestled on a gentle hill in the Marche region, at 301 meters above sea level, Ortezzano offers an open view of the Aso Valley, also known as Valdaso. A small village embraced by a tranquil landscape—shaped over a thousand years by the interplay between nature’s rhythms and human activity. The Valdaso follows the course of Aso River as it flows from the Sibillini Mountains to the Adriatic Sea, and it is the geographic and productive heart of this territory. Millions of years ago, the entire area was a marine environment, and today’s hills show evidence of that past in their sedimentary rocks.

South of Ortezzano flows the Aso River, which marks the natural boundaries of the town. Born from the Apennine ridge, it has shaped the valley for millennia, carving the landscape and depositing fertile sediments that continue to nourish this generous land. Today, it represents an essential water resource, as its waters support the local ecosystem and the area’s thriving agriculture.

In the past, these hills were covered by dense forests and home to communities living through pastoralism and subsistence farming. With the arrival of the Romans, the landscape underwent a remarkable transformation: forests were partially replaced by extensive cultivation, and the first farms—the villae rusticae—sprang up. To this day, Valdaso maintains a strong agricultural vocation: on the hills, vineyards, olive groves, and cereal fields alternate, while the valley floor is characterized by extensive orchards—especially peaches, plums, apples, pears, and kiwis—and numerous horticultural crops. The typically mild local climate favors this productive diversity and supports rich wild vegetation. In spring, the valley takes on a unique appearance when the widespread blossoming of fruit trees paints it white and pink, creating visually striking landscape.

In this specific regional area, the territory of Ortezzano, covering about 7 km², showcases a clear balance between natural elements, historical traces, and the human agricultural imprint. This authentic and diverse environment is also the ideal setting for outdoor activities: e-bike and mountain bike trails, hiking routes through hills and orchards, and scenic walks that allow you to experience the nature and history of the village in perfect harmony.
